El Zota is located in the heart of the tropical rain forest in northeastern Costa Rica, near Tortuguero National park and Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge. Containing 500 hectares composed of primary forest, El Zota is a valuable strategy to unify both conservation areas and help avoid the fragmentation of this forest. It has many different habitats like natural lagoons, rivers, swamps, primary forest, secondary forest, and reforestation areas with native species.
